The time to experience has arrived!

What is it like to walk in someone else's shoes? Books allow us to imagine it, and movies allow us to see it, but VR is the first medium that actually allows us to experience it. NICK MOKEY

In three days time I leave for my overseas research tour. It's taken a great deal of effort and time by myself, and others, to get to this point and now it's almost time to experience it.

Are my bags packed? No.

Have I got some US currency to use when I hit LA? Not yet.

Have I organised a trip that incorporates new places, new people and new experiences? Definitely...Adobe Max conference, XR in EDU conference, VRNYC Expo, plus visits to numerous schools, businesses and community organisations. And to finish, a visit to Google in Mountain View to see the possible future of this technology.

I'm not sure what I'll find while I'm away. Planning things on paper is one thing but to become immersed in the activities of all that organisation is where the education will happen. And that's what this whole experience is about...learning. To experience the experience of others and bring them back for other teachers to use in their classrooms with their students.

Is Virtual Reality the possible educational "game changer" that people are saying? At this stage I'm not sure, but I'm going to enjoy the next 5 weeks as I seek to find out the answers.
